There are a number of occasions when you might want to consider hosting your License Server on a server here at IST.

1. Your local area network is not configured in such a way that allows a license server to be installed in such a way as to be available to all possible SCP users

2. Users of SCP with a floating license may need to access the license server when they are away from the corporate network.

3. You do not have a dedicated server machine.

If any of these situations exist, or you have other issues in installing and using a License Server, please contact us for details of our Hosted License Server service.

We will set up a dedicated license server for you on one of our servers, for an annual fee.

Note that even if you are using a hosted license server, your client PCs running SCP will still have to be able to communicate with the Internet and must have access to port 13.

Restarting an IST Hosted License Server

If you do use an IST Hosted License Server, we can also provide you with a web-based tool for restarting the Linux server on which the license Server runs.  You may need to do this under the following circumstances:

  1. SCP reports that the license server is inaccessible.
  2. SCP reports that the license server cannot issue a lease.

The first thing to do is to restart the License Server itself, using the instructions to be found here : Setting up a floating licence

If you'd like us to set up such a tool, please email us - scp@ist.org.uk

You will be sent a URL, which will look something like:

https://ist.org.uk/reboot/yourcompanyname/

and you will also be sent a password to use the service.

To restart the License Server machine, go to this URL.  You will see a screen like the below:

Enter the password we sent you in to the highlighted text box, and press the 'Restart License Server' button.

The machine may take a few minutes to restart, so give it 5 minutes.  If you still have problems after restarting the server, or any error is reported back by the page, then contact us.
